The real (better, more complete) review will be online very soon.
Contains spoilers. (But seriously, that hardly matters!)
Sometimes a good or very respected actor stars in a bad movie. That four
actors do that in one movie is a little funny. Billy Bob Thornton who hasn't
done much wrong since his own 'Sling Blade' is Lonnie Earl Dodd. Natasha
Richardson (who has the best performance here) is his wife Darlene. Charlize
Theron, who is always lovable in one way or another, is Candy Kirkendall and
Patrick Swayze is her husband Roy. They live in Little Rock, Arkansas and go
on a road trip to Reno, Nevada. An interesting fact is that Lonnie Earl and
Candy had a little affair, and of course that has to come out somewhere in
the movie.
About one hour in the movie things were so messed up that a happy ending was
almost impossible. But since this is a comedy with its heart on the right
place it has to end good, right? Right. The movie finds a way to make it all
good, but it doesn't do that very believable. In the end I liked the
characters, I guess, but to see them for 90 minutes was enough. |
