Below you will find a temporary review for this film.
The real (better, more complete) review will be online very soon.
Probably the only reason I wanted to see this movie was because Audrey
Hepburn is in it. She is my all-time favorite actress and has never
disappointed me in any movie. Again she did her job very good. She is in her
late thirties and still one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen on
screen.
Here Hepburn is Susy Hendrix, a blind woman living with a guy named Sam. On
one day Sam gets a doll from a woman Liza. The doll is filled with heroin
(he doesn't know). Liza is killed and three other guys want the doll. Sam
lost it in his apartment and when he went to work the three guys come up
with a plan to get the doll from Susy.
Besides the Hepburn-performance (Oscar nominated) there are other good
things in this movie. Richard Crenna and especially Alan Arkin are good
villains, the plan to get the doll in a friendly way is clever, how Susy
discovers little things because her hearing is so good is funny and even
more clever and the atmosphere that is created has a lot of suspense. Almost
the entire movie is set in the basement apartment where Susy and Sam live
and the camera and the music all add something to that creepy atmosphere.
The way the ending is handled is pretty good as well. Last but not least we
have a fine direction by 'Dr. No' (and 'From Russia with love' and
'Thunderball') director Terence Young. A fine thriller skillfully made with
one of the best actresses the world has ever known in a great role. |
