Below you will find a temporary review for this film.
The real (better, more complete) review will be online very soon.‘Scream' is almost a parody on itself. The movie knows that is
filled with clichés but before they happen they are explained and analyzed
by the characters first. After ‘Scream' the slasher-movie was back and the
problem with all those copies was that they took it all a little too
serious. The good thing here is that some moments are actually scary or at
least exciting, and may be that is because the subject is handled in this
way.
What is the story? A killer with a white mask wants to kills some girls like
Drew Barrymore and Rose McGowan and wants to kill Sidney Prescott (Neve
Campbell). Her father is missing and her mother was killed exactly one year
earlier. Reporter Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) wrote a book about that and
the fact that Sidney pointed out an innocent man as the killer. David
Arquette is deputy Dewey, Skeet Ulrich is Sidney's boyfriend Billy, Jamie
Kennedy is movie fan Randy. They and a lot of others are introduced as
suspects, and so the guessing begins.
Story here is not very important. It works the way it should work so why ask
questions? The movie knows it's own weaknesses and therefore you can't be
too critical about them. You would expect bad performances and if they were
bad it was all the way it should be, because in the older horror movies the
performances were not the best thing either. But I have to admit that the
actors do a pretty good job here. In the end you have to like a movie like
this, but if you do this is one of the best you can find. |
