Below you will find a temporary review for this film. The real (better, more complete) review will be online very soon.

The best thing in 'The Opposite of Sex' is Christina Ricci's voice-over. Most of the jokes come from her spoken lines. She even comments on her own comments, and on the movie itself. Other things are nice as well in this story about a pregnant girl named Dede (Christine Ricci), her gay brother Bill (Martin Donovan), his old boyfriend Tom who died of AIDS, Tom's sister Lucia (Lisa Kudrow) who is probably in love with Bill and Bill's new boyfriend Matt (Ivan Sergei) who runs away with Dede and 10,000 dollars from Bill.

This is the set-up for the movie that also involves a cop named Carl (Lyle Lovett), who wants to know whether a boy named Jason (Johnny Galecki) tells the truth or not. He says that Bill, a teacher, made him do stuff. I could explain the story a little more but it jumps up and forth so many times I wouldn't really help you. Although it seems a little mess from time to time, it is fun to watch a movie where you sometimes have no idea what will happen next.

So the story, although a mess, makes sure we have other funny moments. Most of them come from comments, by Dede's voice-over, but also from Lucia who seems to be the only person who understands how stupid everybody is acting. Although I was reminded a couple of times of her Phoebe-character in 'Friends', Kudrow did a pretty good job with her performance. Others, like Donovan and Lovett, did their job pretty nice as well.

The comments made by Dede show us that the movie understand itself, doesn't take itself too seriously, and therefore we are able to like it. At least I was.
