Kisses and Caroms rating: (out of 4 stars) United States; 2006 Directed by Vincent Rocca; produced by Jay Beeber, Michael Hutchinson; written by Michael Hutchinson, Vincent Rocca Starring Drew Wicks, Nicole Rayburn, Nikki Stanzione, Ryan Parks, Ginger Lynn Allen, Keith Alexander 'Kisses and Caroms' knows it is ripping off 'Clerks'. It wants you to know it, most obviously by naming a character Silent Bobette. Of course the film is also about clerks, has no real plot and tries to be interesting through dialogue and silly situations. This film proves how clever the writing was for 'Clerks'. Director Vincent Rocca does not really know how to direct, nor how to write or to be an editor. For those interested. The story starts with the day after a threesome. The guy is Zack (Drew Wicks in a solid performance), the girls are his ex-girlfriend Jennifer (Nikki Stanzione) and her best friend Tara (Nicole Rayburn). They all work in Zack's billiard pro shop. We also meet David (Ryan Parks) and weird guy Eddie (Keith Alexander) there. The way their story, especially considering David, is fit into the film for a dramatic climax is one of the worst writing I have ever witnessed. What more can I say? Teen comedies, or films that come close to it, are often predictable, you simply know what to expect. But when there is some smart dialogue, really funny gags, or characters to care for, they are fun to watch. Most of the time I guess. 'Kisses and Caroms' does not have any of these things, making it one of the worst versions of the genre I have seen.
