Below you will find a temporary review for this film.
The real (better, more complete) review will be online very soon.
After ‘Reservoir Dogs' and ‘Pulp Fiction', both great movies, Quentin
Tarantino brings us ‘Jackie Brown'. Based on an Elmore Leonard novel the
writer/director is still able to creates his own story and atmosphere. May
be the movie is a little slower than his first two movies, it is definitely
very good.
The story of course is not told in the most simple way, but a lot easier
than in ‘Pulp Fiction', still his greatest movie (that will probably never
change). Pam Grier is Jackie Brown and she works as a flight attendant. She
also smuggles money for Ordell Robbie (Samuel L. Jackson). One day she is
arrested by two cops, played by Michael Keaton and Michael Bowen, and she
has to make a deal with them to stay out of prison. Jackie also meets Max
Cherry (Robert Forster), a bail bondsman, who pays her bail for Ordell. She
comes up with a plan to play the two cops off against Ordell, including his
helpers Louis Gara (a great Robert De Niro) and Melanie (Bridget Fonda), but
she needs Max his help. He has fallen in love with her.
Tarantino takes his time to develop the story and his characters. We
sympathize with the right people, may be like some others. Grier is the
perfect Jackie Brown and especially Forster and De Niro are great. Jackson
is always cool when his role requires him to be that. A great story, may be
a little different from ‘Dogs' and ‘Pulp', but still a very good movie. |
