Below you will find a temporary review for this film.
The real (better, more complete) review will be online very soon.
I knew the soundtrack of the musical so I wanted to see the movie version. I
got what I expected and therefore I was not disappointed. I liked most of
the songs and this movie is all singing. I didn't even care for the story,
or Eva Perón for that matter. May be that is a weak point, I had no idea
what to think of the lady when the movie was over.
Just to say something about the movie itself. It looks very good (with Oscar
nominations for Best Cinematography and Best Art Direction-Set Decoration)
although we see the characters most of the time. Evita is played by Madonna
and I must admit she does a very good job. Her singing sounds beautiful as
well. The other main characters are played by Antonio Banderas and Jonathan
Pryce, both good, but especially Banderas gives something extra to his
character Ché. Although we learn things about the life of Eva Perón, we
don't know whether the movie thinks she was good or not. I myself was even
unable to make my own mind.
I didn't care, I liked the music. I think it is important for this movie
that you do, since there is almost never normal dialogue. If there is a
chance you will not like that, just want to learn about Evita, I should not
recommend this. For movie musical lovers this is a great example. A new song
especially written for the movie won the Oscar for Best Music, Original
Song. Also nominations for Best Film Editing and Best Sound. |
