Below you will find a temporary review for this film. The real (better, more complete) review will be online very soon.

Empire Records, since 1959. That is the record store where the movie is set. Everything happens on one day and everything is solves on that one day. Near the end one of the characters even says that everything is "perfect". It is one of those movies that plays completely according to formula, and that formula is one we have seen too much. It is predictable, not very logical and therefore almost stupid.

Still, between the mess, there are some good things here. I wasn't bored although I saw things coming. One of the reasons is the music. I didn't like every piece of music but the actors made it quite entertaining to watch, mostly because it seemed they had a lot of fun themselves. Although their characters were not great all actors did the best they could with it. Anthony LaPaglia who is the store manager, Renée Zellweger and Liv Tyler before they were stars, other employees played by Rory Cochrane, Johnny Whitworth, Robin Tunney and Ethan Embry, a singer named Rex Manning played by Maxwell Caulfield and his manager named Jane who is played by Debi Mazar at least give nice performances.

Those little things can't really save this movie. If you are a fan of one of the actors or like the music you might like it. I didn't hate it, but I wished I had seen another movie.
