Below you will find a temporary review for this film. The real (better, more complete) review will be online very soon.

'Crash' is a weird and original movie about something I do not really need to see a movie about. Director David Cronenberg has made some weird movies in his career and I have to admit that I like most of them, find them entertaining. With 'Crash' it is hard to say what I really think. The movie itself is not bad, but its subject is people who get sexually aroused by car crashes. The car crashes could have been anything but if they were, let's say, flowers, the movie was not that weird and original and Cronenberg would not have been the director.

Now, why does someone want to see a movie about this? I am not sure. The problem is that people who like car crashes are probably not very normal, and that is exactly what 'Crash' shows us. These people, including James Spader, Holly Hunter and Deborah Kara Unger, are not likable in any way. That they find each other is great for them but that does not make things interesting for us.

On the other hand we can say the movie is well made. The crashes, especially the first one, look convincing. The acting in 'Crash' is also admirable and it is too bad we will never like the characters. Spader knows how to handle movies like this; he is even better in 'Secretary' that is also about another kind of sex, sadomasochism. Hunter, Unger and also Elias Koteas give steady performances and again it is too bad we simply can not care for them.

In the end I have to admit there is something fascinating about this movie. Although I was constantly realizing this movie was not about something I want to see in a movie, I was not bored once. 'Crash' is not a movie I would recommend but I guess it is perfect if you want to see something different for a change.
