Below you will find a temporary review for this film. The real (better, more complete) review will be online very soon.

After seeing 'Chicago' I wanted to see one of the inspirations for that movie, 'Cabaret'. In the first couple of minutes you see its influence on 'Chicago' and where that film was good and fun, this one is even better and more fun. On the dramatic point this movie scores higher as well since the movie is set in Germany only 2 years before Adolf Hitler will be the leader there.

The songs in 'Cabaret' are great, and together with nice things on stage, most of the time very funny, the musical numbers are a lot of fun. Together with great costumes, a terrific cinematography and a perfect art direction and set decoration this movie looks marvelous. Liza Minnelli is pretty good as Sally Bowles, Michael York as Brian, Helmut Griem as Max, Fritz Wepper as Fritz and Marisa Berenson as Natalia are great in their supporting roles. The best performance in this movie is for Joel Grey as the master of ceremonies. He is in every musical number and he steals the show. If you liked 'Moulin Rouge!' or 'Chicago' there is a good chance you will like 'Cabaret' as well (and vise versa).
