Below you will find a temporary review for this film. The real (better, more complete) review will be online very soon.

'Das Boot' (the director's cut) is a movie almost entirely set in or on a submarine. For this fact alone the movie is worth watching. In World War II we follow this German submarine and that is another fact that makes the movie interesting. We sympathize with the 'bad' Germans.

The movie is long but never boring. We really feel what these frightened people must have felt and we see that in a way they are just following orders and try to survive. It is true that it is the enemy, actually the 'good', or them. That choice is not very hard.

With a great direction from Wolfgang Petersen, good main performances, suspense and a perfectly created claustrophobic atmosphere this is one of the best films not in the English language I have seen.
