Batman: Mask of the Phantasm rating: (out of 4 stars) United States; 1993 Directed by Eric Radomski & Bruce W. Timm; produced by Alan Burnett, Benjamin Melniker, Eric Radomski, Bruce W. Timm; written by Alen Burnett, Paul Dini, Martin Pasko, Michael Reaves Starring (the voices of) Kevin Conroy, Dana Delany, Hart Bochner, Stacy Keach, Abe Vigoda, Mark Hamill Below you will find a temporary review for this film. The real (better, more complete) review will be online very soon. Personally I think Tim Burton's 'Batman' is the best of all movies about this character (before Christopher Nolan's 'Batan Begins'), but this animated version probably suits the character best. Of course it is easier to make an animated movie look like a comic book than a live action movie, but you have to give this movie some credit. It is better than 'Batman Returns', much better than 'Batman & Robin' and I think it is better than 'Batman Forever' as well, although that last one has some great villains that make the movie work as a comedy as well. This animated version has a nice story, of course with some usual clichés, it has some fine surprises, it has suspense, there is a terrific animation and it gave me some good laughs. See this one instead of any of the live action sequels. |
