The Avengers rating: (out of 4 stars) United States; 1998 Directed by Jeremiah Chechik; produced by Jerry Weintraub; written by Don MacPherson Starring Uma Thurman, Ralph Fiennes, Sean Connery, Patrick MacNee, Jim Broadbent, Eddie Izzard Below you will find a temporary review for this film. The real (better, more complete) review will be online very soon.
It is hard to name a positive thing about 'The Avengers', a film of which I
am still wondering what it was actually about. I could talk about Uma
Thurman, but I would be talking about how she looks in a catsuit and not
about her performance as Mrs. Emma Peel. Maybe I could mention Ralph Fiennes
who plays a likable person for a change, although he is not that mentionable
as Mr. John Steed. Jim Broadbent as Mother is sort of a nice change but he
appears in ridiculous scenes that fortunately take not too much time of this
ridiculous film. The only possible positive thing I can talk about, besides
the end credits I welcomed very much, is a scene where Steed and Peel walk
on water. The scene itself is not that great, but I was wishing I could do
the same thing one day in my life. |
