Below you will find a temporary review for this film. The real (better, more complete) review will be online very soon.

It is hard to name a positive thing about 'The Avengers', a film of which I am still wondering what it was actually about. I could talk about Uma Thurman, but I would be talking about how she looks in a catsuit and not about her performance as Mrs. Emma Peel. Maybe I could mention Ralph Fiennes who plays a likable person for a change, although he is not that mentionable as Mr. John Steed. Jim Broadbent as Mother is sort of a nice change but he appears in ridiculous scenes that fortunately take not too much time of this ridiculous film. The only possible positive thing I can talk about, besides the end credits I welcomed very much, is a scene where Steed and Peel walk on water. The scene itself is not that great, but I was wishing I could do the same thing one day in my life.

What I'm saying is you should skip this film. It contains one of the worse performances from Sean Connery, the story is a mess, continuity errors are easier to find than events we might understand, the visual effects are not better than average, sometimes even bad, nice actors like Thurman and Fiennes have a very hard time with the material, the funny moments are not funny. I probably could go on, but you get the point. I have no idea what the filmmakers were thinking and I find it very hard to believe there is an audience for a film like this. I would almost say 'Batman & Robin' is better but I guess that would be a lie. Or maybe not, hard choice.
